Born in 1961
Graduated from Qatar University with a bachelor degree in Marine Science and Geology in 1983. Received a master degree (1985) and PhD (1989) of University of Manchester (U.K.)
Honorary Doctorate by Texas A&M University at Qatar
Holds «Oil Diplomacy Man of the Year» award (U.K., 2017)
Awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun (Japan, 2020)
Esteemed oil and gas expert with 40 years of experience holding key leading positions in Middle East energy sector
Since 2007 till 2011 – Minister of State for Energy & Industry Affairs of the State of Qatar
Since 2011 till 2018 – Minister of Energy and Industry Affairs of the State of Qatar
Since 2011 till 2018 – Managing Director, Chairman of the Board of Qatar Petroleum
He currently holds the position of Chairman of Qatar Solar Technologies, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Doha University for Science and Technology (the State of Qatar), and Advisory Board member for GCC supreme council
He was elected to the Board of Directors of Rosneft in June 2023
