RN-Bunker, operator of the bunkering business of Rosneft Oil Company, has started bunkering vessels with environmentally-friendly TMS-A fuel (low-viscosity bunkering fuel) produced at the Novokuibyshevsk Refinery. The fuel contains no more than 0.1% of sulphur which is fully compliant with the requirements of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) *.
RN-Bunker performed first eco-friendly bunkering in the harbours of Yeysk, Rostov-on-Don, and Azov.
Rosneft aims to utilise natural resources rationally. In order to reduce its environmental impact and produce up-to-date, environmentally friendly fuels, the Company has initiated and is implementing a number of large-scale projects to upgrade its own production facilities.
The advantageous geographical location of the Novokuibyshevsk Refinery in the Samara hub makes it possible to deliver fuel both by river transport along the Volga River in the northern and southern directions, and by rail to other regions of the European part of the Russian Federation.
Apart from TMS-A, Rosneft produces and sells the green low-sulphur fuel RMLS 40 (E I featuring no more than 0.1% sulphur and E II featuring no more than 0.5% sulphur) that is also compliant with the MARPOL requirements. In 2015, Company’s refineries started production of DMF type I marine fuel with improved environmental performance, which allows its use on vessels whose route runs through areas with special environmental status of navigation.
* MARPOL is the International Convention, which provides a set of measures to prevent operational and transboundary marine pollution from ships.
