Yuganskneftegaz to Allocate about 10 Billion Roubles for Land Recultivation until 2024

26 June 2020

Yuganskneftegaz, Rosneft’s largest oil-producing enterprise, will allocate about 10 billion roubles for land recultivation until 2024.

The total amount of investments of Yuganskneftegaz in environmental protection and renovation has exceeded 15 billion roubles in two years, while the amount of costs aimed at elimination of accumulated damage amounted to about 8 billion roubles during the last ten years.

Yuganskneftegaz has established its own units for emergency oil spill response and land recultivation in order to improve environmental safety and the time of response to emergency situations, with the quality of work being monitored by the supervision centre for recultivation. As a result, the area of polluted land at Yuganskneftegaz’ licence areas has decreased by more than 17% over the last three years.

During the land restoration, Yuganskneftegaz uses advanced technologies and introduces unique developments of the Company aimed to improve the quality of information about the state of soil in the licence areas. Yuganskneftegaz specialists have developed an automated CGIS (corporate geoinformation system) for environmental monitoring and reporting. An inventory of contaminated land is carried out by the remote sensing materials decoding, followed by a field survey of the land.

The enterprise has the most reliable and complete information about the state of lands, as it uses modern methods of environmental monitoring, and transmits it in full to the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District--Yugra.

The Company increases the rate of land recovery in the region every year. The integrated approach is implemented with the help of the state-of-the-art equipment, such as amphibious excavators, large-tonnage all-terrain vehicles, floating marsh vehicles, snowmobiles, small off-road vehicles. Employees of Yuganskneftegaz released almost 9 million fry fish of valuable and especially valuable fish species (Siberian sturgeon, peled, and muksun) in 2019 as part of the activities to restore biodiversity and artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources. This is the district company record. The initiative was expressly marked by the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

Note for Editors:

In 2019, Yuganskneftegaz was developing 37 licence areas on the territory of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District--Yugra with the total area of more than 21 thousand square kilometres. The company’s production amounted to 69.5 million tonnes (more than 1.4 million barrels per day) of oil, which approximately corresponds to 30% of the total volume of oil produced in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District--Yugra.
