The Vladimir Monomakh, Russia’s first Aframax oil loading tanker, has been delivered to the customer, Rosnefteflot JSC. The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in the Far East has hosted an official ship delivery event. The Vladimir Monomakh is the flagman ship of the Aframax tanker series. These tankers are designed for carrying oil and petroleum products in unrestricted navigation. Russia has never built such vessels before.
The Vladimir Monomakh was set afloat in May, 2020, ahead of contractual schedule. The tanker’s keel was laid on September 11, 2018, in the presence of President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
The Zvezda crew and delivery team, together with the shipyard’s specialists, completed the sea trials plan in full, gaining crucial experience in planning and organising work at sea on the new Aframax vessels. All of the vessel’s systems functioned normally. The mechanisms have been verified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the vessel’s customer, Rosnefteflot--a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, specialising in chartering and port support, implementation of shipbuilding projects and management of the sea and river fleet.
The Vladimir Monomakh will soon leave the yard for her maiden voyage.
Aframax tankers are referred to as green tankers, for they are designed in compliance with high environmental safety standards. The main and additional power supply units can operate on the green fuel--the liquefied natural gas, which complies with new rules limiting sulphur oxides and greenhouse gases emissions in Baltic and the North Sea basins.
The tanker has length of 250 metres, width of 44 metres, deadweight of 114 thousand tonnes, and speed of 14.6 knots, with ICE-1A ice-class. The ship offers comfortable conditions for the crew: a sauna, swimming pool, gym; each crewmember has their own cabin and high-speed internet access.
The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is established at the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre (FESRC) by a consortium led by Rosneft, upon the instruction of the President of Russia. The shipyard’s portfolio currently includes 12 Aframax tankers, 10 of which were ordered by Rosnefteflot.
Note for Editors:
The construction of Zvezda is carried out in two stages. The following facilities of the first extended stage have been put into operation: the hull production block, painting cabinets, the open heavy outfitting slipway equipped with a park of unique cranes and a state-of-the-art ship transportation system, and the floating transfer dock.
The workshops built enabled the ship construction before the completion of the second stage. Commissioning of the second stage will expand the shipyard’s capacity and allow Zvezda to build vessels and marine equipment without any limitations. The second stage comprises the following: a dry dock and additional full-cycle production shops for construction of large-capacity vessels and marine equipment.
The largest dry dock in Russia has been constructed four years ahead of schedule, and now works of equipment commissioning are being performed there. The shipyard overall completion is scheduled for 2024.
Zvezda’s product line includes tankers, gas carriers, drilling platforms, and ice class ships, including the world’s most powerful nuclear icebreakers, the Leaders. The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex will provide Russia with a civilian fleet to develop offshore fields and smoothly navigate the Northern Sea Route--the shortest route between Europe and Asia.
