Rosneft Reclaims About 15,000 Hectares of Land In 2020

13 July 2021

Subsidiaries of the Company, following the results of the implementation of nature restoration measures in 2020, reclaimed about 15,000 hectares of land.

Rosneft pays close attention to environmental issues. The company is improving approaches to environmental management, increasing the scale of environmental activities, and is also focused on the rational development of natural resources and minimizing the impact on the environment.

For this purpose, the Company is implementing the Environmental Efficiency Improvement Program, the Pipeline Reliability Improvement Program, measures for the production modernization and reclamation of mechanically disturbed lands, and the best available technologies are being introduced. Within the Environmental Development Concept, Rosneft has set a goal to reclaim 100% of the lands of the “historical heritage” * by 2035. This indicator has already been achieved at several Company's producing enterprises.

During the reclamation in difficult climatic conditions, the Company applies advanced technologies and innovations. For example, specialists of the largest Rosneft's production asset - RN-Yuganskneftegaz - have developed an automated system for environmental monitoring and reporting. Identification of contaminated land plots is carried out by deciphering materials of remote observation (sounding) and subsequent field survey.

Samotlorneftegaz was the first in Russia to introduce the method of winter recultivation that provides for year-round land clean-up activities. The enterprise also actively practices winter sowing of perennial grasses, which increases the efficiency of the restoration measures carried out. Unmanned aerial vehicles are used for round-the-clock air monitoring of oil field pipelines, as well as the entire infrastructure at the enterprise.
