Employees of the Saratov Refinery (an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company's refining complex) together with their children took part in an environmental campaign to release fry into the Volgograd Reservoir. More than 18,000 herbivorous fish fry were released into the Volga at the beginning of May.
The project aims to address several objectives as follows: restoring the biodiversity of the Volgograd Reservoir, preventing active blooms in the river, recycling plastic, and encouraging the younger generation to become involved in the environmental movement.
Participants of the campaign – Saratov oil refiners and pupils of specialized Rosneft-classes – collected more than 50 kg of plastic lids. Funds from recycled plastic are used to purchase herbivorous fish fry. The average adult carp, bighead carp or white amur eats more than a kilogram of algae per day, helping to prevent algae overgrowth in the Volga.
With the support of the Saratov Refinery, the collection of caps continued at the city's specialist educational institutions – the Institute of Chemistry at Saratov State University and the Saratov Chemical Technology College.
Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimising the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production and implements several comprehensive programmes for the preservation and restoration of natural resources.
Saratov Refinery employees also take part in other environmental projects to preserve the Volga – traditional clean-up days for the sand spit in the village of Uvek and the pine forest on the banks of the Volga.
